The Entrance to the National Park of Tikal was right outside our hotel door Practically!
Tikal
Ron and I took a small plane from Guatemala City to Flores where our driver met us and drove us to our hotel which was situated right outside the entrance to Tikal National Park. We stayed at the Jungle Inn for 2 nights at a Eco Lodge which was so convenient to walk to the Park. We got up bright and early and followed the Path into the dense Jungle which took us straight to the Gran Plaza and around the Tempo 1. The Templo del Gran Jaguar. Although climbing to the top of Templo 11 which is pictured below is Prohibited, the views from Templo 11 just across the way are nearly as awe-inspiring.
Here Ron is on top of Templo V, a remarkably steep structure at 58m high and was built sometime between the 7th and 8th century AD.
Green Toucan
The Second night we reserved a Sunset Tour through Templo 1 and the surrounding area and we had a very nice and knowledgeble, English speaking guide. We climbed to some of the Temples so I could set up my Tri-pod to get some amazing views of the sunset.
